"My Diabetes Talk about Dietary Concerns
and Using Helpful Herbs"
Introduction:
Richard McDonald became a clinical herbalist in 1991, upon his graduation from Michael Moore's Southwest School of Botanical Medicine, and has been a practicing clinical herbalist since then. In 1994, he opened his own herb store, Desert Bloom Herbs, in Silver City, N.M., where he remained until the spring of 2003, when he changed his business format to one of home office consultations and retail / wholesale supplier of herbal preparations.
Richard continues to provide a wide variety of resources to his community, which include, providing information about herbs, conducting professional herbal consultations, teaching classes about herbal medicine-making, and manufacturing healing herbal products.
In his decade of clinical herbal practice, Richard has collected medicinal plants in a three-state area, including areas in most elevations and climatic conditions. He has created a full line of products, including salves, soaps, medicinal syrups, tea blends, and single and compounded plant extracts.
Richard currently presents classes in herbal medicine-making, and also puts on medicinal herb walks for the local community in his acre-demonstration garden. He has been a regular presenter to the several local Diabetes Support Groups inside Grant County. He is the founder of the Silver City Herb Guild, and was recently asked to help reactivate it, with the help of several fellow clinical herbalists in our local Silver City area. This group has now had regular meetings for several months, and have had full classes for their first 6 week medicine-making series, which was given excellent reviews by its participants.
During his 12 years of clinical practice, and operating Desert Bloom Herbs store in Silver City, New Mexico (for 9 of those years), Richard has had many opportunities to observe the effects of different herbs, foods, and drug medications on clients, thereby establishing a working knowledge of many condtions which can occur within the human body, during the course of a lifetime.
Richard carefully observed which herbs worked, and which worked best for specific conditions, and used these observations to intially formulate the product line, and then refine them over the period of a decade. During this time, there were many interactions with clients, regarding diabetes mellitus, type 2 when Richard was behind the herbstore counter. Unfortunately, the Southwestern United States, with its large Native American and Hispanic populations is fertile ground for diabetes, where the incidence of it exceeds the National average by a large percentage. In addition to observing the effects of different substances on diabetes,
Richard has done extensive research into diabetes, in order to become a community resource of much needed, accurate information about this disease.
We wish to thank you for your interest in this information about all natural ways to deal with the condition of diabetes, and hope you're able to come away from it with a clearer understanding of this disease, and some common-sense approaches to adjustments in ones lifestyle which will
help make living with Diabetes a bit easier.
