(Uncaria tomentosa)

This is a fairly new herb in American useage, and one which we're finding deserves it's almost legendary status. Used for hundreds of years in the tropical rain forests of Equador and Peru, as well as some of the other mountainous South American countries' indigenous peoples, this herb has recently come into widespread use throughout the world.

The original scientifically-oriented work on possible medicinal applications was done by an Austrian scientist, Dr. Klauss Keplinger, and he has obtained at least two U.S. patents for isolating some of the major components of the herb. By reading the results of exhaustive studies in several countries, I have put together an impressive list of possible benefits which have been achieved by different people throughout the world who've been using this herb.

Main medicinal effects:

The main effects of this herb seem to be to detoxify and cleanse the digestive tract, and to stimulate underlying immune-system functions. There are many other reported actions which are attributed to this herb, such as anti-inflammatory actions, anti-viral actions, an ability to help lower blood pressure, an increased prevention of blood clotting, help in detoxifying environmental poisoning, as well as helping to correct chronic immune-system dysfunctions, such as lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, and all forms of herpes. It has been used in conjunction with allopathic pharmaceutical preparations such as AZT, for fighting the AIDS virus (most likely because of it's support in building immune system functions), and cancers associated with the later stages of aids, with encouraging results.

Some of the digestive functions with which I have seen beneficial results are: diverticulitis, ulcers, gastritis. Some tumors of the bowels and colon were kept from spreading. Positive results have also been achieved by individuals using this herb for such illnesses as: diabetes, prostatitis, and various forms of cancer.

As can be seen by the varied and amazing results, this is truly a wonerful, world-class herb, which has helped numerous people, giving wonderful results.(especially when combined with positive dietary and lifestyle changes.)

This herb can be taken safely without worry about toxicity. It may, therefore, be consumed in fairly large quantities safely. Even though this is the case, there is certainly a window of thereputic value, beyond which increased effects may not be realized. I have adopted doseage suggestions from information shown in abstracts of tests on the herb, as well as manufacturers of the products made from this herb. Here are the generally useful parameters: 3 to 6 grams / day (approx. 8 size 00 capsules), or four very strong cups of tea taken intermittently through the day. When preparing the tea, since the part of the plant used is the bark, a strong decoction seems to be the most beneficial method of preparation. (see definitions)

Traditional Dosage Outline

If the extract is used, the traditional doseage is 60 to 90 drops (3 to 4.5 ml.) four times each day. For overt pathologies, where the condition is very advanced, as much as twenty grams of the raw herb may be used, or as much as 250 to 400 drops or 12 to 20 ml. / day if using the extract. We use only the botanically-certified species called Uncaria tomentosa in our products.
