What is NM-CPAHC ?

NM-CPAHC is a group of New Mexico citizens , working within our state, to create and help to pass legislation, that will secure protection for the Traditional and Alternative forms of medicine, which have been culturally and historically found within New Mexico, and the practitioners of these healing modalities. Additionally, we work to protect the ability of the population at large, to access these alternative forms of medicine, so they have the widest choice of healthcare options available.

Traditional and Alternative systems of medicine are mostly ancient systems and ways of healing, which have been developed over thousands of generations of human existence, using both trial and error and specific methods for determining what properties a plant or treatment may posess, and how it could be used in a medicinal or healing context. These systems are generally regional, and many depend upon plants which grow in their specific area or region, though many of these systems may not be based on plants.

The organizing members of NM-CPAHC believe that the only way to preserve the cultural heritage and the traditions of New Mexico and guarantee our ability to use these and other healing modalities, along with the many and varied types of treatment opitons used within these traditional systems, is to create clear, comprehensive legislation, which outlines our rights to use these systems, and protects the practitioners of these. The legislation would also provide guidance and some basic requirements for practitioners, such as providing an informed consent page to the client before providing services, and keeping client information confidential.
