NM-CPAHC Protecting Community Tradition

North American Herbal medicine (Traditional medicine), and many other healing modalities which have never been formally licensed in the U.S., are nonetheless a very real part of the "unseen" health care net which has always been a part of most cultures all around the world. In 1990, United Nations studies documented that although the populations of many "developed" countries use pharmaceutical drugs more than herbs, the opposite is true in most of the world. Plant medicines, the natural remedies which are given freely to us by nature, are the predominant form of medicine on Earth. Fully 75% of the worlds population uses plants as their primary source of medical treatment. When we think about it, we begin to understand that this is only natural on a "plant planet" such as ours, where plant life is predominant.

Many Americans who read this may have never been in touch with the world of medicinal plants, and the natural systems of healing which have developed around them over the thousands of generations of human experience, in every part of the globe. Many have experienced herbs only in "capsule form" and have never seen the actual plant or part of the plant which is enclosed in each capsule. They may have never smelled or tasted the herbs they use, and most have never just walked in the woods to see these plants as they occur in nature. These are all experiences in which CPAHC highly encourages everyone to participate, with someone knowledgeable about medicinal plants, within your local or regional area. Many native medicinals from every area can even be cultivated with some experimentation, and can be grown in home gardens.

You may not live in an area where herbal and alternative medicine practices are in abundance, or where there is still abundant natural habitat which remains, however, there are many centers of alternative healing in the United States, and even more in countries which still have relatively intact ecosystems, including thousands of medicinal plants.

New Mexico is one area where so many rich Medicinal traditions mingle within a single region, coexisting with one another. Each of these traditional practices came with its own system, culture and heritage. These traditions are woven into the fabric and flavor of New Mexico and are a treasure chest addressing the most basic human healing on many levels.

NM-CPAHC was formed because its founding members saw the importance of keeping these traditional, unlicensed alternative practices from being forced to abandon what they have been doing all along: providing safe and effective methods for treating a wide variety of human conditions. These traditions have never been shown to be a danger to public health and safety. These traditions have never had more than a few serious negative results in their uses throughout time. To the contrary, traditional healing modalities have most often proven beneficial in varied circumstances, particularly when specific methods are used by a skilled person well-trained and experienced in their system of practice.

We invite you to help locally or state by state in protecting your own rights to access these traditional healing arts and the practitioners who serve their communities by keeping these traditonal systems alive.
